a summer evening on the beach

Mandy and Paul came up with the most thoughtful gift idea for their parents - a family photo!

When I spoke to Mandy about what they were after, she explained they didn't want anything too fancy, or set up - they just wanted natural photos of them either on their family farm, or on the beach.

Since it was quite a hot day, we picked the beach & scheduled the photo shoot for the evening - right when the sun was going down. The air was warm, and the lighting was just right...

Just before we began I asked Mandy and Paul's kids if they'd ever had their photos professionally taken - they sighed and said "only school photos". I told them that this experience would be a lot more fun than school photos!

As you can see from the photos - it wasn't hard to get them to smile... I think it's because they really did enjoy it!

i love that i can wear thongs to a job and then take them off and run around the sand!

Amy & Matt | The first dance

In the past week we've had three weddings - it has been a busy week indeed. In the days after we upload, back up, sift through and begin the editing process. Delete the ones where people are blinking, and of course the out of the focus ones (which rarely pop up !), keep all the goodies & then choose our favourites. The favourites make it on to the dvd slideshow we provide once you receive your photos.

I'm currently in the middle of editing Amy & Matt's wedding, which we photographed mid January. In the entire day we shot (from start to finish), we clicked our cameras buttons around 3,000 times! Yes, a lot of photos to go through - but it's all worth it.

I'm often asked what's the most rewarding part of my job... Well, all of it! Firstly, I love meeting people. Secondly, I love that I can literally freeze peoples memories, moments which go by so quickly. I also love editing... I love when you come across pictures you forgot you had taken. Ones that simply take your breath away.

I came across these pictures today. The first dance - a traditional moment at any wedding. I just loved the feeling in these two photos... I feel as though I'm back there in the moment.

Charlie | A very close friendship

Whenever I'm a little sad or need cheering up I always turn to my dogs. No matter when you see them they're always ever so happy to see you. Even if it was only two seconds ago, they still wag their tales, jump up and down & lick your hands with excitement.

Charlie is the older of my two. She's a boxer who turns six this month! I may sound a little bias, but to me she is the perfect dog. She's clever, she's loyal, very protective, playful & obediant. I feel like every day I see her, she developes a new grey speckle of hair of her pretty face. As much as I don't want to admit it, she is getting old. And boxers life expectantcy is usually between 8 - 10 years of age.

I wonder when the day will come, when she won't be able to run out & jump a metre high when she sees me. I wonder when she'll stop fetching her tennis ball & when she'll eventually slow down. I make the most of everyday I have with them. I take them on their favourite walk each day, let them inside when it's too hot or too cold & give them a scratch on their bellies.

Charlie is beautiful & everyone who meets her thinks the same thing. Do you have a friend who you share a special relationship with?

Well, I hope these photos make you smile as much as they make me...

Rebekah & Collins | A vintage inspired day

Rebekah & her Irish husband Collins, currently live in Ireland. It was Rebekah’s wish to get married in her home-town - Leongatha. So, Collins happily agreed and over they came with Collins family.

The two married in Leongatha’s beautiful Catholic Church. The weather was a typical Aussie summer day - the sun shining brightly on Rebekah.

In the week leading up to their wedding day I met Rebekah. I instantly felt at ease with her - she was happy & very excited. She took me to her parents’ farm where she grew up - this is where our location photos would take place. She noted out her favourite things, things she wanted to capture on her wedding day so she could physically take her favourite memories back to Ireland with her. It was the most beautiful property - the hills rolled on forever, the fragrance was crisp and fresh & the sound, silent.

The first time I met Collins was at the altar! He gave me a little nervous smile, posed for a quick photo and then turned his head toward the front doors of the church. Rebekah’s emotional entrance was a piece of the day I won’t ever forget. I heard someone say “Oh, look at her dress” and the other “Oh, she’s crying”. It was just perfect. And, the groom’s first glace at his bride-to-be is always priceless.

After the ceremony, we gathered everyone for a group photo, organised some formal family shots and then wandered over to the property. Again, it was how I remembered it in the week before the wedding... nothing had changed, although now I had an ever so in love couple in front of me! We only spent about an hour walking around the farm, but that was plenty of time. We captured so many different photos - these are just a few of our favourites.

Rebekah and Collins shoot back to Ireland soon... I do hope to see them again, thanks so much for allowing us to be apart of your special day x

Rebekah made her own head piece and bouquet & also inspired some of her guests to wear their own head pieces!

The old farm house was full of memorable pieces...so much history!

Rebekah with her proud father

It was a little hard to get a smile out of Rebekah's little helper Royce - but check out his beaming smile here!

The church was the perfect place for Rebekah and Collins

One of my helpers managed to get Rebekah's entrance for behind, as I focused on the front & Collins...

Groom's first glance at his bride-to-be, always priceless!

There's one of those head pieces!

Gorgeous little girls... Rebekah's family was quite big and there was an endless amount of cute kids running around

Everyone in!

A ride in style - Rebekah's brother's dark green Ford - stunning!!

A moment alone with the groom while Bek wandered off to get some more comfortable shoes

Ah, the comfy shoes!

Look at the view!

I think the rest of these photos speak for themselves...
